repair of the world

Six million souls sacrificed on the altar of Nazi ideology and European antisemitism were not enough. The world continues its work of destruction. Facing an aberration that eludes our comprehension, it is necessary to act with the hope provided by restorative and creative action.

the power of light

From Paris to Jerusalem, the light profoundly transfigured my painting.

bonds

It may seem paradoxical to undertake handmade textile work at a time when 3D printing is pushing the boundaries of artistic creation. According to the method of opposites developed by Maimonides, balance - the middle way - requises going to the opposite extreme, to rediscover the primordial bonds that united the first Man to his creator, the vertical thread without which fraternal love is not possible.

precious being

This series of small boxes was mostly intended for protecting and shipping jewelry or precious objects. These small pieces, created just after October 7, were presented in 2024 during the Jeu de l’être exhibition, curated by Annabelle Boulakia, Paris.

flight

The heart here serves as a representation of a uniquely human trait: the capacity for connection with the Creator. Through this artistic staging, the heart bears witness to the profound ties humankind establishes with others, rooted in a loving relationship with the divine.

gniza

The Gniza is the traditional place in the Jewish world for the revenant preservation of manuscripts, books, and objects bearing Hebrew letters that are no longer fit for use.

posters

The second dimension in my artistic journey, and the title of this first series of canvases created in Paris by 2018, echo the Dazibao plastered on the walls of Beijing to defy censorship in 1989.

« light of the stars off »

Title of a Gerard Haddad book, this installation questions the contemporary humanity. As little stars in the sky, the six million souls of Jewish people dead during the Shoah light our own life.

exodus

Hundreds of porcelain leaves, carefully arranged in an openwork case, and a video, invite questions. Visible and invisible, do they contain a secret?

What matters is not so much the meaning as the architecture of the Book. Radically open, it is never finished. It is written as we interpret it.

The installation is placed on the floor, while a looped film sequence is projected in the background. This juxtaposition creates a questioning of the world in its dialectic with the Text. The Exodus invites to go beyond the Text, to set it into motion.

This installation has been added to the collections of Magnelli Museum in Vallauris, France, in 2012.

« in praise of the caress »

This metaphor by Emmanuel Levinas, which serves as a subtitle for Marc-Alain Ouaknin’ book, seeks to convey the fundamental connection between humanity and the Text. “We cannot keep the Text but just praise it”.

“The caressed body lights up the hand. The fist lacks the caress; as does the quill. The quill opens the hands / The hand opens to language, opening to the distance”, wrote Edmond Jabes in La memoire de la main.

screaming

Nothing but a mouse, voicing a cry or a chant of hope for human beings within such a despondent world.

« the hospitality of the book »

"I have been, since forever, part of the question, and I have let myself be carried away by the book. / I faced the resemblance and assumed subversion. / I endeavored to circumscribe the real and the unreal: absence and presence; life and death; the word and the silence. / I expanded the dialogue and defined sharing. / I took stock. / From you, I take leave, but will live from reading. / Immeasurable is the hospitality of the book." wrote Edmond Jabes in L'hospitalité du livre.

psalms

After Auschwitz, as others have said, art could no longer be the same. How to rebuild? That tragedy is something that can never really go away. The discovery of evil was a trigger, a driving force in my life and the starting point of my artistic commitment. Then, I work the way one says a prayer.
